Getting Your Garage Ready for Epoxy
A great epoxy floor starts before we even arrive. Proper preparation of your garage means a better finish, stronger adhesion, and a floor that lasts for decades. Here's what you need to know.
What We Do (Don't Worry About These)
We handle the technical prep — diamond grinding, concrete profiling, crack stitching, and moisture testing. You don't need to do any of this yourself.
What You Should Do
1. Clear Everything Out
Your garage needs to be empty. That means cars, tools, shelves, cabinets, boxes, fridges, gym equipment — everything. The more space we have to work, the better the result. If you need help moving heavy items, ask us — we can sometimes assist on the day.
2. Remove Wall-Mounted Items (Optional)
If you have shelving or cabinets mounted to the walls, removing them allows us to epoxy right to the edges for a seamless finish. Not essential, but recommended if you can manage it.
3. Hose Down the Floor
A quick sweep and hose-down removes loose dust and debris. Don't worry about oil stains or old paint — our diamond grinders will take care of those. Just remove the loose surface dirt.
4. Check for Moisture Issues
Does your garage get damp after rain? Is there a musty smell? Let us know before we start — we'll perform a moisture test and recommend the right system if there's a vapour issue. All Purpose Coatings systems include moisture-tolerant primers if needed.
5. Plan Your Exit
Garage epoxy installation takes 1-2 days depending on the system. You won't be able to drive or walk on the floor for 24-48 hours while it cures. Plan parking and access accordingly.
6. Think About Colours and Finishes
Before we arrive, browse our Colour Studio and choose your colour and flake blend. Popular Sydney choices include Classic Grey, Warm Beige, and Midnight Charcoal. We can discuss options during the free on-site inspection.

Common Questions About Garage Prep
Do I need to wash my garage floor before you arrive?
A light sweep is helpful, but don't stress about stains or dirt. Our diamond grinders remove everything down to bare concrete.
What about oil stains?
Not a problem. Grinding removes the top layer of concrete where oil has penetrated. For deep-set stains, we can apply a degreaser before grinding.
My garage has an epoxy floor already — can you re-coat it?
Yes, but the old coating needs to be fully removed first. We grind it back to bare concrete and start fresh. This ensures the new epoxy bonds properly and lasts its full lifespan.
How long after installation can I park on it?
Light foot traffic: 24 hours. Parking cars: 48-72 hours depending on the system and weather. We'll give you specific timings based on the product used.
